PERFORMANCE PLANNING

Pharmacy Informatics Analyst II employee designs, implements, monitors, and maintains the technology systems related to the medication therapy of patients of the Health System.  They manage the MEDITECH modules responsible for the clinical care of the patient medication therapy as well as financial applications, including but not limited to medication ordering, dispensing and administration. This person also develops and supports the automated pharmacy drug delivery systems.  They are the liaison to the technology vendors as well as between pharmacy and other departments and physicians in the Health System.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Effectively receive and investigate issues reported by staff and physicians related to software, hardware and process/workflow to determine root cause(s) of problems/failures.
  2. Independently formulate and execute plan(s) to resolve reported issues.
  3. Monitor tasks and reported issues and facilitate communication between internal and external customers.  Follow issues through to satisfactory completion.
  4. Independently assess planned and unplanned downtime situations.  Formulate, communicate and execute plan to address downtime for Health System medication use systems with pharmacy and nursing leadership.
  5. Assess vendor enhancements.  Lead affected departments through the implementation of enhancements.
  6. Function on teams as content expert and/or project manager for implementation of new processes and technology systems.
  7. Create and maintain electronic drug formularies.
  8. Import external data source updates into Health System databases (e.g., Formulary Service Vendor content).
  9. Administer security access to medication systems.
  10. Perform pharmacy information systems upgrades.
  11. Design and maintain HL7 interfaces.
  12. Maintain drug cost data.
  13. Upload required data to regulatory agencies.
  14. Assist with creating and maintaining medication order strings and order sets.
  15. Respond to hardware (e.g., computer, scanners, printers, AcuDose) problems; perform initial troubleshooting and/or replacement.
  16. Perform all administrative functions in maintaining Connect-Rx network and server maintenance.
  17. Create and manage IV infusion pump drug libraries and libraries stored on individual pumps.
  18. Monitor data to ensure system integrity (clinical and financial).
  19. Create reports using vendor specific tools, Crystal Report Writer, Monarch, and with SQL.
  20. Data extraction using vendor specific tools.
  21. Manage data using Excel, Access, SQL, and vendor specific tools.
  22. Update vendor records using scripting language tools.
  23. Reconcile patient data.
  24. Process interface rejections.
  25. Develop and perform training for users in the pharmacy, nursing, medical staff as appropriate.
  26. Participate in on-call coverage in supporting the systems twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.
  27. Work independently and assume the informatics responsibilities of the pharmacy manager in his absence.

  • Must adhere to all DCH Health System policies and procedures.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

  1. Associate degree, Bachelor's degree preferred.
  2. Current license in State of Alabama that allows access to handle medications (e.g. RN, LPN, RPh), or pharmacy technician registration with the State Board of Pharmacy.
  3. Minimum of one year experience in health care.
  4. Previous experience with pharmacy information systems and medication delivery systems preferred.
  5. Previous experience creating reports preferred.
  6. Knowledge of Windows operating system and network management preferred.
  7. Must be able to read, write legibly, speak and comprehend English.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Able to stand, walk, reach, sit, crouch and stoop for extended periods of time.  Must be able to carry objects weighing 35 pounds. Requires good motor coordination with good manual and finger dexterity for data entry.  Must have the ability to communicate with staff and patients of all ages.  Ability to travel to all Health System facilities. Hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.  Able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
